ASTM F2482
Standard Specification for Load-Indicating Externally Threaded Fasteners
This current standard covers our MaxboltTM
and SPC4TM Load Indicating Fasteners. ASTM F2482 has passed
both the F16 Subcommittee and Main Committee. Publish date expected to be
around the 1st quarter of 2006. Below is a summary of what to expect.
1. Scope
1.1 This specification covers
externally threaded fasteners that are capable of indicating clamping forces up
to yield strength during the tightening process and/or post installation
residual tension. Load-Indicating fasteners utilize mechanical, electronic or
ultrasonic means to indicate fastener tension.
1.2 These fasteners provide a means to verify the desired clamp load in critical
applications, both upon initial installation as well as in service.
The load indicating fastener standard will assist engineers and technicians
though out industry to accurately monitor joint tightness in critical
applications. They are ideal for determining, when critical joints are losing
their clamp load and allows the engineer to complete a time study on joint
settlement issues. Presently there are no standards that address these types of
fasteners, this leaves out many government, DOT’s, and military institutions
from the benefits of this technology.
